On April 14, 2014, 276 girls from the Chibok Secondary School in northern Nigeria were kidnapped by the terrorist group Boko Haram. Novelist Helon Habila joins us to discuss his book, The Chibok Girls: The Boko Haram Kidnappings and Islamist Militancy in Nigeria. Habila, who grew up in northern Nigeria, returned to Chibok, spoke to their families and wrote an account the tragedy, telling the girls’ stories and capturing the indifference of the media and the international community.
Event: Helon Habila will be speaking and signing books at McNally Jackson Bookstore (52 Prince Street) on November 30th at 7 p.m.
